I don't remember the conversation that happened around deciding to run a 50k. It probably went something like this:
Oh man, that trail marathon looks pretty sweet. We should do it.
Alright, cool. Maybe we should do the 50k while we're at it.
Ok, that sounds good.
I'm not trying to make a 50k sound trivial at all. It's not as though I have no emotion leading into this endeavor. Am I scared? Possibly. Am I afraid of getting injured? Of course. Am I excited? Beyond belief.
Signing up for a 50k with my running buddy Clare seemed like the most logical next step in the progression of running. Running is addicting. Racing is addicting. Pushing your body, and most importantly, your mind, to do things you didn't think were possible, is addicting.
On Monday, Clare and I signed up for the Ann Arbor Marathon, which has been moved to March 30 (previously run in June). This aligns perfectly with our training schedule - we figured if our longest run was going to be 26.2, we might as well get a medal and t-shirt out of it. Today, we signed up for the 50k trail run in Pinckney, which is April 27. So basically, our wallets are empty and our laces are tied.
Just as I don't know how training is going to go these next four months, I don't know how this blog is going to shape up. But, it's all part of the adventure. So zip up those jackets. It's about to be a long (cold) run.
